Crystal Mug — Katsura

A mug with the cryetalline glaze Katsura, named after Cercidiphyllum japonicum, commonly known as Katsura tree, which has leaves with a bronze tint in spring, turning yellow, pink and orange in autumn, when gives off a burnt sugar fragrance. Transparent glaze is applied inside the mug. 

The mug is 100% handmade, thrown on my potter’s wheel and a handle with thumb rest is manually attached. The material is stoneware with porcelean slip applied outside, thus making the background color red. It is fired with 20-hour schedule with additional whole day of cooling period.

It can contain 400 cc liquid if filled to the rim, making it suitable for both tea and coffee.

It is food safe, and can be washed in a dishwasher and is microwave safe.
