Japansk Keramik

About us

Made in Denmark,
but with japanese
aesthetics and techniques

Reiko’s career as an artist started after she studied oil painting in a Japanese university and became a painter/junior high school art teacher. After several years of staying/studying in the US, she moved to Denmark in 1999. She set up her ceramic studio in 2007 in Suldrup, Denmark, as she decided to go back to a life of creativity after working many years as a translator/interpreter. She learned how to handle and throw clay, blend her own glazes, and find appropriate firing schedules for each of her glazes. Initially, she used stoneware clay for producing domestic pottery, such as rice bowls, salad bowls, mugs, decorated by Japanese traditional glazes and decoration techniquers.

These years, she has become fascinated by crystalline glazes and experiments with various glazes by mixing raw materials. Most of Reiko’s work is hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel using stoneware clays coated with porcelain slips.

She sells her products at various galleries and butiques in Denmark, as well as online.
