A big vase with the cryetalline glaze Strelitzia, named for the orange and blue colors similar to the beautiful flower native to South Africa whose common name is bird of paradise flower/plant, because of a resemblance of its flowers to birds-of-paradise. Transparent glaze is applied inside the vase. I threw this big base of 30 cm tall by throwing by sections using 6 kg of clay. After testing this glaze with one of my 5 ovens many many times using smaller pieces, I finally decided to fire this big vase, but the result is not 100% satisfactory to me because of small imperfections. If you like this vase, please take this home with you.
All my vases are 100% handmade, thrown on my potter’s wheel. The material is stoneware with porcelean slip applied outside to have bigger and rounder crystals. It is fired with 20-hour schedule with additional whole day of cooling period.
